Who in their right mind would put a light on 500 West at 100 North???? That light should be at Center Street.
As it turns out from sources within the Department of Transportation at the State, Bountiful City and West Bountiful requested that the light be at 100 North rather than at Center Street, even though the traffic engineering analysis done by the State showed that Center Street is where this light should be. Bountiful City Manager Tom Hardy made this push and was able to pursuade West Bountiful City to go along with this request. Tom Hardy did not want traffic using Center street to bypass 400 North and 500 South. Bountiful City Engineer Paul Rowland concurred. What is sad is that neither one of these gentlemen have a clue.... As it turns out, traffic is still using Center Street to bypass 500 South, especially since 500 South Street cannot handle the traffic now that Costco and the other stores and restaurants that surround it have moved in. Traffic is always backed up to the Sports Authority to the east on westbound 500 South, and sometimes is backed up all the way to 200 West. What is crazy too is that the City of Bountiful is trying to get the Downtown on Main Street revitalized. One would think that Bountiful City would welcome more traffic on Center Street going through the middle of the Downtown. It would seem that our highly paid professionals at Bounitufl City just don't understand city planning... What do you think?
